Looking to dig into gardening this summer? We've compiled a list of gardening classes happening in Erie, Pa. Some are adults only, others are made for kids! Find the perfect gardening class in Erie for you!

April 15:

Herb Garden Planting Workshop at Erie Ale Works (SOLD OUT)Join in a Herb Garden Planting Workshop with French Street Farms at Erie Ale Works. This class is geared toward new to moderately-experienced gardeners. Whether this season will be your first foray into gardening, or you think you have a black thumb, or you’re just interested in meeting some new people, drinking some good beer, and playing in some dirt -- this class is for you. Adults only. $30.

April 16:

Gardening to Attract Pollinators at Asbury Woods (Registration required)Pollinators like bees and hummingbirds are both beautiful and beneficial for gardens. Join a Master Gardener to learn how to start your own pollinator-friendly garden. This program will discuss the best plants and gardening practices to attract pollinators to your yard. Additionally, each participant will get to make and take home their own mini hummingbird feeder. Pre-registration required.  Adults only. $8 members, $10 nonmembers.

April 22:

Children's Garden Workshop at Oasis Market (Registration required): Join French Street Farms for its first-ever children’s garden workshop! Children will plant their very own cherry tomato plant, carrots, peas, herb plant, and flower. They will learn about what makes each type of plant happy, and head home with their very own garden! Ages 5 and up. $30 per child.

April 23:

Basic Backyard Gardening at Millcreek Library:  Backyard gardeners Sarah & Bethany will teach the basics of growing a variety of plants that can be easily incorporated into everyday recipes. All ages and experience levels welcome. FREE.

April 24: 

Top 5 Tips for Gardening at Frontier Park (Registration required)Join us for a fun and informative panel discussion with local gardening experts Ruth Benner, Maria Blakeslee, Dan Dahlkemper, Henry Rafferty and Josh Skarzenski. Adults only. $10 members, $12-nonmembers.

April 25:

Think Green: Sustainable Living Every Day at Frontier Park (Registration required): Join in a lively, eye-opening panel discussion with local sustainability experts Katie Chriest, Brittany Prischak, Hannah Rhodes, Jessica Stutzman and John Vanco. Adults only. $10 members, $12-nonmembers.

April 26:

Plant a Tree on Arbor Day! at Frontier Park: To celebrate and express gratitude to all who have supported LEAF and its activities over the years, Penelec has donated 250 seedlings for community members to take home and plant. First come, first served. All ages. Free.

April 27:

Build Your Own Rain Barrel at Asbury Woods (Registration required)A rain barrel is an easy way to be “green” and conserve water at home whether you are an avid gardener or just like to water your lawn. Come to this class and construct a rain barrel from a 55-gallon food grade container. All supplies are included in the cost. Register in advance, space is limited. Ages 10 and up, with an adult. $65 for a rain barrel for nonmembers, and $55 for members.

Family Gardening Workshop: Grow Together! at Frontier Park (Registration required)Join Penn State Master Gardeners Maria Blakeslee & Patty Dicks for a fun, hands-on family gardening workshop designed to encourage both kids and adults to roll up their sleeves and get planting together! Each child will plant a garden starter kit to take home! Ages 6 and up. $15 per child.

April 30:

May 14:

Square Foot Gardening at Edinboro Library: Join Heather Zimmerman, manager of Garden of Edin and Erie County Master Gardener, who will be presenting information about Square Foot Gardening. This simple method uses raised beds to grow more vegetables in less space and with less work. She will discuss the ideal spacing needed for each plant to optimize your harvest. This session is based on the book “Square Foot Gardening” by Mel Bartholomew. All ages welcome. FREE.
