Fall Clean Up: Erie Events Where You can Donate Household Items

After a summer of mess, the return of kids to school always makes me feel like getting the house clean and uncluttered. So I was glad to see upcoming events where I can donate everything from clothing to books. So it's time to clean out the garage…the basement…the overflowing closets throughout the house.


Reuse Fest

Sept, 23, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. 

Clean out the garage…the basement…the overflowing closets throughout the house because a regional large-scale collection of materials to be REUSED by local nonprofits will return to Erie on Saturday, September 23.

Pennsylvania Resources Council’s “ReuseFest” – a one-of-a-kind drop-off event for gently used materials destined for reuse by numerous local nonprofit organizations – will accept a wide variety of materials including bedding/bath, clothing, furniture, kitchen items, pet supplies, usable building materials and more.

 PRC’s 5th annual “ReuseFest” in Erie will take place on Saturday, September 23, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the parking lot of UPMC Health Plan, 380 E. Bayfront Pkwy.  

 Nonprofits collecting materials at the September 23 event will include Erie City Mission, Goodwill of Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania, Greater Erie Area Habitat for Humanity, Green Scene Thrift and The ANNA Shelter.

Items collected include:

All materials donated should be GENTLY USED and in good condition. Partners reserve the right to refuse unusable materials. 

BEDDING & BATH
Bathroom towels/rugs, blankets, sheet sets (bag and note size), curtains/curtain rods

CHILDREN’S ITEMS
Diapers, toys, clothing, books

CLOTHING, ACCESSORIES, SHOES
Men’s, women’s, plus size clothing, big and tall sized clothing, children and infant’s clothing, shoes, jewelry and other accessories

FURNITURE
Hardwood furniture (bookcases, end tables, dining tables, chairs, bed frames, dressers), loveseats, sofas, recliners, lamps, clocks, quality decorating items
NOT ACCEPTED: broken/stained furniture, large metal/wood desks, stained/torn mattresses

KITCHEN ITEMS
Cooking and bakeware, dishes, glassware, pots, pans, cooking utensils, small working appliances (toaster ovens, blenders, coffee makers, etc.)

PET SUPPLIES
Dog/cat food and treats, stainless steel/ceramic food bowls, hard-sided dog/cat crates

USABLE BUILDING MATERIALS
Bathroom vanities and fixtures, hardware, kitchen cabinets, lighting fixtures, new building materials (extra bundle of shingles or box of ceramic tile), unpainted doors, shutters
NOT ACCEPTED: carpet, lead paint, wall-mounted sinks, sinks without base cabinet and used paint.

Drive-Thru Book Drive at Blasco Library

10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Oct. 7

The Friends hold two book drives every year in the spring and fall. You may drop off any amount of books. Drop-off located on the East side of Blasco Library off of Holland Street. 

Accepted:

  • New fiction, especially suspense and mystery
  • Children’s Books
  • Local History
  • Books on CD
  • DVDs
