FREE: 21st Annual LEAF Festival at Frontier Park

Description

A free, family-friendly educational event celebrating the beauty and diversity of trees in the arboretum. Local organizations provide information and hands-on activities including a live animal display, arboretum tours, auction, crafts, scavenger hunt, and more! The festival is free and open to the public.

Our 2019 festival features many free activities for all ages and interests including: 

• LEAF walking tour (meet at the front door of the LEAF Education Center – tour starts at noon!)

• live animal display from Erie Zoo

• scavenger hunt (featuring live animals!) with Asbury Woods

• hands-on nature education (scavenger hunt, leaf rubbings, nature notebook craft!) with Address Earth

• a LEAF craft table with nature art activities

• monarch butterfly display, butterfly craft, and milkweed seed giveaway with local educators and Master Gardeners Maria Blakeslee & Sue Scholz

• DCNR Bureau of Forestry educational display showcasing a demonstration of tree rings and growth of trees.

• rocks and fossils display with Michael Naber, Associate Teaching Professor of Geosciences, Environmental Science Program, School of Science, Penn State Behrend

• outdoor demonstration about proper tree planting and mulching led by Penn State Extension Educator and LEAF Board Member Ruth Benner (weather permitting) 

• and MORE (for all ages)!

Auction tickets are for sale throughout the day and the drawing will be held at 1:45 PM. Proceeds from the auction will benefit educational programs at the LEAF Education Center.
