Erie's WQLN Launches Annual Writing Contest for Kids in Grades K-3

Local contest awards young writer-illustrators for original stories

January 10, 2019

Do you have a child who loves to write? Or are you a teacher with a class full of budding novelists? WQLN wants to see your young writer's work!

WQLN Education, in partnership with Erie County Public Library, is asking for entries in its annual Kids Writers Contest, open to all grade K-3 students in the WQLN viewing area.

Winners from each grade will get fun prizes!

K-3 teachers are encouraged to invite student participation.

You can submit original stories -- complete with original illustrations! -- to WQLN. Stories can either be dropped off at offices or mailed. WQLN's address is 8425 Peach St., Erie PA.

You can also drop off stories at any Erie County library branch or the Bookmobile.

The annual Kids Writers Contest is designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active learning and empower children to celebrate creativity and build literacy skills by writing and illustrating their very own stories.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place stories.

WQLN Education will recognize winners at a private reception in spring 2019, and the four first place winning

stories will receive free membership in the WQLN Kids Club, which offers free or discounted admission to

many family-friendly attractions throughout the region, along with other benefits.

First place story excerpts will also be read by the young writers and aired on WQLN TV during daily WQLN Kids programming over the summer and interactive versions of all winning stories will be archived on WQLN.org.
