We surprised the kids with a last-minute trip to Niagara Falls last weekend. I was super excited for a weekend with just the four of us and no real plans.
This trip might have been more about me than them. That's because I’ve been feeling a little nostalgic about the end of summer break. The craziness of the school year and after school activities mean the days are already blurring together. And when we are all home there's homework and chores and neighborhood friends and packing lunches and making dinner and ... the list never ends and bedtime comes too soon.
I really wanted a weekend away with just my babies and hubby —just time to connect and enjoy some fun together without any responsibilities.
So when I saw the Holiday Inn was offering a back-to-school deal of at least 20 percent off rooms I decided that was a perfect excuse to escape. I booked us a room at the Holiday Inn By the Falls on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls and off we went to a place where:
- They have an indoor and outdoor pool and a hot tub.
- Kids eat (and stay) free.
- There is daily housekeeping and we don’t have to clean.
- We can explore the Falls and crazy Clifton Hill during a non-peak time of year.
The perfect place for just one last hurrah for our family before the official end of summer:

I hope you have a chance soon to take a day — or just a few hours—to skip the chores, skip the stress, and just bond. Take the chance to hug your babies tight because one day — way too soon —they won’t be fighting about who gets to sleep in mama’s bed at the hotel.
