Erie's Children's Museum Reopening July 7 to Members

The museum will open three days a week. Nonmembers welcome after July 14.

June 26, 2020

The expERIEnce Children’s Museum is planning to open to members on Tuesday July 7 and then to the general public on Tuesday July 14. The museum will open three days a week with time-ticketing sessions throughout the day to allow thorough disinfecting between sessions.

Those hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday:

  • 9:00am – 11:00am
  • 12:00pm – 2:00pm
  • 3:00pm – 5:00pm

The museum leadership team has spent the past several weeks working on a 40-page Strategy to Reopen Plan that combines CDC recommendations as well as recommendations from the Association of Children’s Museums. Some of the items in the plan include eliminating exhibits with airflow, rearranging exhibits to maintain social distancing, cleaning and sanitizing protocols, staff training, and more.

The museum is committed to upholding safety guidelines required to reduce the spread of COVID-19, which include:

  • physically distancing;
  • wearing face coverings;
  • washing and sanitizing hands;
  • cleaning and disinfecting surfaces;
  •  staying home if sick.

 “Like most places reopening during the time of COVID-19, a visit to the Children’s Museum will be different than before, but we are committed to providing families with a safe learning experience,” says Ainslie Brosig, Executive Director. “Children’s museums across the country have come together to work on a plan that we feel will offer clean, safe fun.”

Reservations are required for both members and non-members and will be scheduled in two-hour time slots. Reservations can be made online at https://www.eriechildrensmuseum.org/  Each session will allow for 75 reservations to visit the museum. This is less than the recommended 50 percent capacity recommended by the CDC and Governor Wolf.
