As of Thursday morning, we might not know who will be president yet. But the 2020 winter holidays in Erie, Pa., are starting to come into focus. While the pandemic will continue to affect our favorite Erie holiday traditions, organizers are doing their best to create safe and memorable family-friendly events in Erie, Pa., this winter. But sitting on Santa's lap? Probably not this year.

Here is what we know:

Asbury Woods and Winter Wonderland

5-8 p.m. Dec. 4-31 (except Dec. 24 & 25)

Asbury Woods presents a modified Winter Wonderland starting December 4 through December 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Andrew J. Conner Nature Center at Asbury Woods.

In light of the pandemic, the event will look different this year. The boardwalk adjacent to the Nature Center at Asbury Woods will be lit up each night, starting December 4 through 31 (except December 24 and 25). The lights will be displayed from 5 to 8 p.m. for the community to enjoy a peaceful evening stroll on the boardwalk through the woods.

“The typical Winter Wonderland activities won’t be available this year, but we still want to provide a way for people to connect to nature and to show our appreciation. We are incredibly thankful for the community’s support and participation during this time and this modified version of Winter Wonderland is one way to show our gratitude,” said Jennifer Farrar, Executive Director.

The holiday lights will twinkle in the woods and wetlands along the boardwalk which covers 1/3 of a mile. Access to the lighted boardwalk will be free and open to the public as a way to thank the community for continuing to visit Asbury Woods, attend our programs, and make donations as we have weathered the pandemic and shifted our ways of operating.

Presque Isle Lights

6-9 p.m. December 5-6, then Fridays through Sundays through Jan 3.

Presque Isle Lights welcomes visitors to experience a self-guided evening driving tour of seasonal lights throughout Presque Isle State Park from the comfort and safety of their vehicles. Visitors will follow the park’s full 13-mile loop road encountering along the way a variety of lights and displays coupled with the natural beauty offered by Presque Isle after dark.

Presque Isle Lights is organized by the Presque Isle Partnership, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the Presque Isle visitor’s experience by developing, funding and implementing projects and programs on the park while protecting the natural environment.

Presque Isle Lights is committed to sustainability. LED lights, which consume 90% less energy than incandescent lights of the past, will be used throughout the park. Solar generators will be utilized to power certain areas without electrical utilities such as the park entrance, Leo’s Landing, Thompson Circle, and Sunset Point.

Areas of the park with existing electrical utilities will be adorned in lights such as the Stull Interpretive Center, Public Safety Building, Waterworks, Perry Monument, Presque Isle Lighthouse, and Beach 8.

Presque Isle Lights is FREE for everyone, thanks to sponsors.
