Winter in Erie is a time to bundle up, head outside, and embrace the season—snow or shine! Whether you're skating figure eights, strolling through a snowy wonderland, or speeding down a tubing or sledding hill, there’s no shortage of family-friendly fun to be had. While some activities rely on Mother Nature's snowy touch, many spots are ready to make their own winter magic, ensuring a good time no matter what. Check out Erie’s best winter adventures and get ready to create memories you’ll cherish long after the snow melts:




Ice Skating

Whether you're a seasoned skater or trying ice skating for the first time, Erie offers three popular venues, each with unique experiences.

⛸️ Flo Fabrizio Ice Center at the Zoo (Indoors)

  • Public Skating Hours (through February 9):
    • Fridays & Saturdays: 8-10 PM
    • Saturdays & Sundays: 12-2 PM
  • Cost:
    • Entry: $6
    • Skate Rentals: $4 (Zoo members save $1 on each)
    • Optional skate helpers available for an additional fee.
  • You & Me Skate (through February 9):
    • Mondays: 10:30-11:30 AM
    • Cost: $10 per adult/child pair (includes rentals).

⛸️ LECOM Sports Park (Indoors)

⛸️ Downtown Erie Community Skating Rink (Outdoors)

  • Hours (Nov. 30 through Feb. 28):
    • Fridays: 4-8 PM
    • Saturdays: 12-8 PM
    • Sundays: 12-4 PM
  • Cost: $5 (includes rentals). Skaters must be at least 4 years old.

Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing

For those who prefer a slower-paced adventure, Erie's winter trails offer a chance to connect with nature. Rentals and clinics make it easy to enjoy the outdoors! Rentals available when there’s at least 6 inches of snow on the trails.

🌲Asbury Woods

  • Equipment Rentals (Starting in December):
    • Hours:
      • Monday-Saturday: 10 AM-4 PM
      • Sunday: 12-4 PM
    • Cost:
      • Cross-country skis, boots, and poles: $10
      • Snowshoes: $7 (Discounts for members).
  • Classes: Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing clinics are offered on Saturdays in January and February (weather permitting).

Snow Tubing, Downhill Skiing, and Snowboarding

For adrenaline-packed winter fun, head to the slopes! Both Mount Pleasant of Edinboro and Peek'n Peak Resort offer tubing, skiing, snowboarding, and lessons for all skill levels. Both resorts make snow, so even if there's little on the ground made by Mother Nature, you may still be able to enjoy snow adventures!
