10 Free September Events in Erie You Won't Want Your Kids to Miss!

Looking for things to do with kids in Erie that are free in September? You've come to the right place! Here are 10 kid-friendly and family-friendly events this month in Erie County that are absolutely free. Click on the links for more information:

🏉Build a Field Goal Game at Home Depot

Kickoff football season with a portable action-packed field goal game. In this workshop, you and your child can build a game to test your aim. Simply flick or drop-pluck the ball through the goal posts to score a field goal worth three points. Once the game is built, your child can customize it with paint and stickers. Kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin. Recommended for ages 5 through 12. Saturday, Sept. 1.

📓School Supplies Giveaway!

Students can load up on free school supplies at this annual giveaway at Odessa's Place. Must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. Students in grades K-12. Saturday, Sept 1.

🎮Pokemon League at Blasco

Meet other Pokémon trainers at the Erie County Public Library’s Pokémon League! Come play games, trade cards, and make friends. Trading Card Game, Nintendo DS, and Pokémon GO gamers are all welcome! Ages 6-12. Saturdays, Sept. 1 and 15.

🌲20th Annual LEAF Fest at Frontier Park

A family-friendly educational event celebrating the beauty and diversity of more than 1,000 trees in the arboretum. Hands-on activities including a live animal display from the Erie Zoo, an auction, crafts for kids, a family-friendly scavenger hunt, and more! All ages. Saturday, Sept. 8

🎼Stress-Free Singing Workshop at Summit United Methodist

This workshop focuses on developing a mindset that allows you to sing joyfully, without physical stress and strain. All are welcome to come and make a joyful noise in this fun class! Children welcome with a caregiver. Saturday, Sept. 8.

🎨Second Sunday at the Erie Art Museum

The Erie Art Museum is going crazy with color! Participants will use a super cool wax resist technique to transform watercolor paintings into something crazy colorful during the September Second Sunday event. In addition, as always, the museum is open for free on the second Sunday of the month. All ages. Sunday, Sept. 9.

🌅International Coastal Cleanup

Volunteers of all ages are invited to participate in the 30th annual International Coastal Cleanup at Presque Isle State Park and Erie Bluffs State Park. Participants will collect trash and record data regarding their finds. All ages. Saturday, Sept. 15.

📚Big Day of Books at Blasco

Enjoy author and poet readings, book-themed free raffles, children's activities, and screenings of highlights from the PBS series The Great America Read. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite author or character from literature. A literary costume contest for all ages will award prizes for the best costume. Also, bring new and gently used children’s books to fill the Auto Express Kia bookmobile for donation to local children’s charities. All ages. Saturday, Sept. 15.

💥Potterfest in Edinboro

Muggles are welcome at the weeklong annual Potterfest in Edinboro. Potterfest is held at various businesses, university locations and other places around Edinboro and many of the events are free. Highlights include "Day at the Castle" and "Defense Against the Dark Arts" sessions, Quidditch, and a Cosplay wizard and witch promenade from Edinboro's campus to downtown Edinboro. All ages. Saturday, Sept. 15 - Saturday, Sept. 23.

❓What is ... Junior Jeopardy!

This new Erie County Public Library program is an exercise for the brain and a challenge for the youngest of Jeopardy fans! Much like TV’s Jeopardy, contestants buzz in, answer some awesome trivia, and win a prize! Junior Jeopardy is scheduled at three branches in September: Edinboro, Millcreek and Fairview. (Click on each for details about that branch's event.) Ages 8-12. Mondays, Sept. 10, 17 and 24.
