We asked Macaroni Kid Erie readers to nominate an Erie mom that inspires them for the chance to win a $100 Coventina Gift Card and a $50 bouquet from Rosebud Flower Shop. We heard from more than 100 of you. Some entries were sweet, some funny, and some made us cry. Here's what you had to say (the winners, who were chosen randomly, are both in Part II and highlighted):

🌷🌷🌷

As a single-parent, my mother took every step to ensure I lived a good life. There were times she worked three jobs to support us. Now, at 32-years-old, she still takes care of me – spent the night in a hospital chair after I had a pretty intense surgery and helped me get through the weeks following. I’ve never met someone as driven, focused and supportive as her!

--Courtney, nominating her mother, Sandra

🌷🌷🌷

She has had a rough year becoming a single mom but has done everything to be strong on be there for her son.

--Amanda, nominating her friend, Brooke

🌷🌷🌷

She supports me and loves me no matter what I do. She's always there when I need an extra hand getting the kids to school, working on a craft or project, being an ear to listen when I need to complain....with no judgment. Best of all,  she has taught me patience as I have become a mother myself. She's better than a best friend, she's my mom.

--Sara, nominating her mom, Maryann

🌷🌷🌷

I love my mom because she buys me Star Wars stuff.

--Lily, 3, nominating her mom, Amanda

🌷🌷🌷

Michelle is a single mom to her beautiful daughter, and I have NO idea how she does it half the time, but she gets it done. Not only is she a single parent, but she still maintains a full-time job! I have a lot of respect for her as a mom. I am not a single mom and half the time can't hold my own when it comes to parenting. She has created a beautiful life for her and her daughter, and continues to be an awesome advocate for her daughter's education despite some learning disabilities and physical health concerns. She always has her daughter's best interest, and it's admirable! I know she doesn't always feel this way, but she is the strongest person I know!

--Kimmy, nominating her co-worker, Michelle

🌷🌷🌷

My mom is the most hard-working, selfless, amazing person I know.  She works 12-16 hr days sometimes 6-7 hours a week as a nurse.  She gives EVERYTHING she has to her patients, family, and friends.  She is superwoman!  We lost my dad to colon-cancer a few years back and she has gotten through everything that that entails with strength and grace!  I wish every single day that I could be to her even a fraction of what she is to me.  She never takes time for herself to pamper herself or put her needs first.  I would love to be able to see a day be about her for once.  Knowing her she’d try to give this away too but I wouldn’t let her.  This would help so much to give something back to her and show her that she matters and is special and deserving also! Thank you for this chance!

--Kimberly, nominating her mom, Janet

🌷🌷🌷

She is a single mom to three adorable boys. She remains so happy and positive. And she ALWAYS has a smile on her face. She’s worked very hard and continues to work very hard to raise her boys and provide a good life for them. I’ve seen her accomplish so many things, on her own, that it’s mind-blowing. She’s humble, kind, and SO funny! I can’t think of any mother that would be more deserving of this than Brianna.

--Linzee nominating Brianna

🌷🌷🌷

I love and like my mom and tell her this 50 or more times a day. She snuggles me and gives me hugs and helps me with my homework.  She takes me to gymnastics and art club and to other fun activities.

Tilden, 11 nominating his mom, Stephanie

I love to dance and sing with my mom around the house. She plays princess dinosaur rescue hospital and tea party with me and my brother.  She is fun!

Penny, 5, nominating her mom, Stephanie

🌷🌷🌷

My sister is a very hard working and giving person.  She works full time as a special education teacher and is continuing her education at the same time.  She is a great mother to my little nephew.  I see her come home after long days at work and she is exhausted, but she gives him everything that she has got.  I watched her eat dinner and play with him for two hours the other day without remembering to even take off her coat.  She is also a really great aunt to my three boys.

--Heather, nominating her sister, Katie

🌷🌷🌷

My sister has a son and a daughter, they are 9 and 4. She has had a rough time over the past couple years. She went through a divorce, and had to move back to Pennsylvania with my niece and nephew, and start life all over again. She had a photography business in Virginia and went from having a full house with a room specifically for her studio to a tiny 2 bedroom apartment with barely any room, and no room for a studio to continue her passion of taking pictures. She continued doing sessions for clients outdoors. My nephew is autistic, which makes it very hard on my sister because she is by herself. Her significant other took a job in Tennessee, and is now in Maryland, and visits every other weekend. It is very rough on her doing everything alone. She does the grocery trips, getting kids ready for school and on the bus, doctors appointments, school functions...everything by herself. She is a very strong woman. She continues to do photography, keeps herself busy redecorating their new house (literally ripping carpets up and sanding down floors in whole rooms lol), in between taking care of her two kids. If anyone deserves this,it's her. She doesn't get much time to herself, and could use the relaxation. She is an amazing, mother, sister, friend, and person in general.

--Jennifer nominating her sister, Ashley

🌷🌷🌷

My mom has always been there for us. No matter what we have been through she's always been an advocate for us. Always strived and demanded that we get the best in life, she's still helps her parents, her siblings, her friends, my kids, and me and everything everyday but we need she's there for you whenever you need her.

--Kathryn nominating her mom, Barb

🌷🌷🌷

She does it all with a smile and a hug.  Henry, her son, is a child of integrity and compassion and these are the qualities he learned from Kristy (and Ryan, his Daddy).

--Molly, nominating her daughter-in-law, Kristy

🌷🌷🌷

She is unconditional in every way.  Everyone is always first.  She is the most selfless person I know.  Our mother sets an example to all around her, not only as a mother and grandmother, but as a friend, and community member as a person.

--Melissa, nominating her mother, Barbara

🌷🌷🌷

Stacey has been battling breast cancer while being present and engaged in her young daughters life.   She was very ill during her year-long treatments but continued to be an awesome mom!  She made sure to spend time with her daughter even when she could hardly hold her head up.  She maintained a positive attitude even when she couldn’t get out of bed, so as to not upset her daughter. Stacey is one of the toughest moms I know to have gone through what she did and still be able to be an awesome mom!!  She is on the road to recovery now and could really use some pampering!! Thanks for the opportunity!

--Maria, nominating her sister, Stacey

🌷🌷🌷

Raising twins on her own husband passed away from cancer last year. She’s always smiling and teaching my daughter so much . She’s smart and a wonderful role model to all of her kids in the classroom and at our school . She has 7 year old twins and deserves a little time off to relax!

--Charity, nominating her daughter's teacher, Emily

🌷🌷🌷

She is not only an amazing mom to her three children but she is also a 4th grade school teacher and half of a mom to them.  And even though she doesn't have a ton of free time she always finds the time to not only take care of her children but also her family and everyone else she cares about...If anyone deserves a day to go to the spa it would be her.

--Michele, nominating her sister, Melissa

🌷🌷🌷

She has raised the best 3 1/2 year old little boy, Jacob!  He is so polite, sweet, and caring.  Jacob uses manners, and is extremely smart.  He is a hard worker.  Jacob is always so happy!  I believe he has all of these attributes as a direct result of the wonderful mothering he receives from his mama, who is a full-time college student, but always finds time for him.

--April, nominating her grandson's mother, Emily

🌷🌷🌷

She is one of the most hardworking women I know and devoted to her son.

--Holly, nominating her friend, Michelle

🌷🌷🌷

Annie taught kindergarten for several years, and now together with her husband Andrew,  she is parenting three active children in Erie County.   She is patient and kind with everyone, including the children that she watches at her church nursery on Sundays, her nieces and nephews,  and her younger sister who attends college in Erie.  Annie takes her children to the playground and does crafts and cooking with them.

Shirley, nominating her daughter, Annie

🌷🌷🌷

What makes Cathy an outstanding mom to me is that she stepped up to fill a void in my life when my own mommy was hit by a drunk driver that left her paralyzed from the neck down and on a vent to help her breathe, I was only in high school when this tragic incident happened. My mom passed away due to her injuries. Cathy was a very good friend of my mom's. She didn't hesitate a moment and opened her heart and home to me. She has always been there for me to help try to fill the void left from the loss. I became a mother myself when I was a senior in high school and Cathy was there to love and support me without any judgment. She has helped guide me throughout my whole life and she is a had a big influence on the type of mother I am today. There are no words that can ever express how much I appreciate her selfless acts. I'm not sure where I would be if I had not had her in my life. She is so deserving of this plus so much more.

--Brenda, nominating Cathy

🌷🌷🌷

Katherine is one of the most selfless and kind people I know. She works tirelessly to provide a wonderful life for her children, and she always talks so highly of her two kiddos and how proud they make her.  Katherine is a ray of sunshine to everyone she encounters and I feel this is such an important characteristic for kids to see modeled and in practice. Katherine deserves a little "me" time in preparation of her upcoming wedding!!

--Renee, nominating her friend, Katherine

🌷🌷🌷

My mother is a survivor! She has survived the birth of seven children, the management of seven children, juggling work and home life, and most recently breast cancer! I cannot imagine the hardships my mother has endured throughout her life but I know she is still with us and for that I am grateful. She has had a lot of side effects from the chemotherapy, especially bone pain, body aches, and hair loss. Her hair has officially returned and I feel like she deserves a wonderful day at the spa. She is a true inspiration and I would love for her to be pampered! Thank you!

--Jennifer, nominating her mom, Debora

🌷🌷🌷

My mother is gone and Gracie has been the mother I have never had. She is kind, gentle, and would give you the shirt off her back. She broke both of her legs and has been in a nursing home since February 5. She worries more about others than herself still even though she need to take care of herself.

 --Jennifer, nominating her mother-in-law, Gracie

🌷🌷🌷

My mom has been amazing from the very beginning.. even now that I'm grown and have a child of my own, she still goes out of her way to make sure I'm ok and have what I need. She would go without if it meant making sure we have what we need. Now that she's a grandma, it has been amazing seeing her with my son. She spends all the time she can with him. She worries about us and is always checking in on us to make sure everything is ok. She has always worked hard for our whole family, and goes out of her way to help anyone that needs it. She's a very strong woman, and will never ask for anything. She deserves a nice massage and a day to do nothing but relax. Thank you for the chance!

--Stacey, nominating her mom, Susan

🌷🌷🌷

Being my mom for 53 years, she is my best friend in all of the world. She loves my family like no other, loves my children like her own and has always been here in strength and love for me , her daughter. She is 77 years old, kind, loving, caring and beautiful ...everything a mom is supposed to be ...she is ...and more.

Rebecca, nominating her mom, Linda

🌷🌷🌷

It’s been a long, cold winter for my widowed mom. But that hasn’t stopped her from being active! She is always there to lend an ear and play the role of both mom and dad. This would be the perfect way to thank her for all she does for me and her 5 grandchildren.

--Carrie, nominating her mom, Dianne

🌷🌷🌷

My wife Ashley had a miserable time carrying our daughter Liliana. She had a medical condition HG, she lost 35 lds during her pregnancy. I’m in the Coast Guard, I always felt so guilty leaving her home alone. She always was so strong and told me not to worry about it. When our daughter arrived she was a natural born mom. She Just staring at our daughter for hours of excitement how healthy she was and crying because she loved her so much. She was overwhelmed with joy. A month later we had to relocate and move to Erie with three dogs and a newborn. My wife left the house she grew up in, her family, and friends and never complained not once. Always telling me she married a military man and she understood the sacrifices she would have to make. I know it broke her heart, even if Buffalo isn’t that far away next time We can be where ever the military sends us. Our daughter is now almost 11 months old, she’s into everything. My wife had taught her so many amazing things. I wish she could really know how truly amazing and special she is. My wife does everything on her own. I’m home two days a week, I don’t help her as much as I would like to. My wife does all the housework, takes care of our daughter, packs food for me when I’m gone for days at a time and works as a nurse part-time. She never gets a break, she’s a super mom. I truly don’t know how she does it. I wish I could give her the world. Even if we don’t win. I would love for my wife to see this it would mean so much to her.

Joshua, nominating Ashley

🌷🌷🌷

Linda is an amazing mother to her two children, Paul and Anna.  In the 12 years I have known her, she has always taught her children to believe that their dreams can come true!  Both children are now out of the house; Paul has a very successful job in Montana and Anna is a senior at Duquesne.  Linda's role has taken a turn over the past couple of years with her own mother.  Dementia, among other health ailments, has taken much away from the once non-stop woman.  Linda has stepped in and has become a tremendous advocate.  Linda's dedication and love for her family is quite evident and she handles everything that comes her way with grace.  Linda deserves to do something for herself and Coventina would be the perfect stress release!

--Jennifer nominating Linda

🌷🌷🌷

Helping her children learn, love and respect others. Animals, other people, and the environment.

--Theresa, nominating Valerie

🌷🌷🌷

My mother had children in her house for 56 years straight without any complaints at all. She raised my sister and myself for 12 years and then a brother came along. I had my daughter when he was 16! She then babysat my three children and then my brother's children came along. when my last daughter was ready for school! When his children were ready for school she then babysat my daughter’s, children, her great-granddaughters! My father passed away during this time and my mother tried everything she could to help us without fail! I’ve never met such a selfless, caring supportive person. I’m so blessed to be able to call her my mom and my children and great-grandchildren get to call her grandma. Thank you for the chance to honor her with this amazing gift!

Beth, nominating Judith

🌷🌷🌷

She works a full-time job, a busy mom and is the chair of our marketing team at church.  She leads a very busy life, and always has a smile on her face!  She is always available for mom advice or to answer questions regarding church issues.  She is such a pleasure to be around!

--Jen, nominating Nadya

🌷🌷🌷

Bethany has been one of my dearest friends for over half of my life. She has walked with me through the highs and lows of life. one of my happiest shared experiences with her is being moms together. She became a mom a year before me and watching her with her son made me all the more excited to start my family. She works very long hours at her job and yet still manages To be one of the most loving, caring, encouraging, thoughtful and attention detailed people I have ever met. She throws the best birthday parties with the most beautiful and coordinated decor she is so good at thinking of fun and creative things to do with her three beautiful kids and the way she balances work and family is an inspiration to me. Her family and friends always come first and she would drop anything at any time for anyone in her circle! I’m so thankful for peer moms like her who I can live life alongside and share this child raising experience with. She is so busy I would love for her to have a chance to pamper herself a little.

Leah, nominating Bethany

🌷🌷🌷

This dedicated woman is the mother of 6 children who range in age from 5 months to 19 years old.  Each child ( 19, 10, 8, 5, 2, & 5 months). has their own unique personality and needs...and she meets them all!...from advising her college freshman to being an advocate to a child who has a severe hearing deficit to breastfeeding the baby.   She takes her children to scouts & is conscientious in making sure that her children have social, cultural, & church-related experiences.  Now, you might think that she is a "stay at home" Mom..., NO ~~ she works full time outside of the home as an elementary school librarian.   She is excellent there also...being selected to present at statewide educational conferences.   She puts everyone ahead of herself.  I hope that she wins this contest so that she could get a little pampering for herself!

--Jessica, nominating Heather

🌷🌷🌷

34 Jen is an amazing and very strong woman. When she found out she couldn't have a baby we didn't know what to do. I felt horrible for her & her husband. No matter what tests she had to do, no matter how much money, she wanted a baby of her own. She stayed so positive. And now she is a mother of a little boy. She is by far one of the best mothers that I've ever known. If I were able to have a baby, I would want to be as good as a Mom as Jen is. I truly love her, she's my best friend.

--Jackie nominating Jennifer

🌷🌷🌷

Rose is an amazing loving mother. Rose works a tough job helping others while going to school for her bachelors at Edinboro and working a second job 1 day a week. Rose works very hard to make sure she gives her daughter Lilly (4) the best possible future she can. Rose also just got married to Jack, Lilly's father, so on top of raising Lilly, working, and going to school, she is an amazing loving wife. Rose goes without to give to her family, never splurging on herself. She deserves a day of pampering.

Adell, nominating Rose

🌷🌷🌷

She adopted a baby on her own, with a heart full of love. She wanted a baby, but hadn't met a husband-person, so she, somehow, gathered the courage and funds and prepared her home for a baby, and a birth mom in Baltimore wisely chose her to raise her daughter. That baby girl is 3 years old and couldn't have found herself a more devoted, diligent, loving mother.

--Jennie, nominating Dana

🌷🌷🌷

Growing up I struggled with a mental illness that was not diagnosed until adulthood. She loved me unconditionally despite how challenging I was. She took me to Presque Isle to run on the beaches to calm me down. She raised me to be kind, thoughtful, determined and to always persevere. I also had learning struggles not officially diagnosed until adulthood. I have become who I am because of her. She always taught me that God had a special plan for me. I also was 2 months premature and my mom and I almost died. My mom said we both lived for a reason. I am now a peer specialist at Safe Harbor Behavioral health where I use my experiences to help others with their mental health recovery. I honestly credit my mom and find myself quoting her sayings I swore I’d never repeat. People say you are like your mom that is 100% a compliment. She is so caring and kind and helps others and does not often get the recognition she deserves. I often tell her she is my earth angel and jokingly as where her wings are. Thanks Mom for being my earth angel.

--Stephanie, nominating Diane

🌷🌷🌷

Lindsay is the definition of a good mother. She's positive, encouraging, optimistic, loving, caring, patient, understanding. She is the mother of two darling babies, Findlay, 9 months, and Breccan, 2. Unfortunately, Lindsay lost her own mother to cancer a little more than 3 years ago, but the relationship she shared with her continues to shine through in how she parents her children. Every single day, she radiates her mother's light and love toward her own children. A stay-at-home mother, she is the backbone of her family. Her husband, Jon, recently bought a rubber manufacturing company in Fairview, Lake Erie Rubber, and she has supported him every step of the way while raising their babies. If there is anyone who deserves to be recognized, it is Lindsay.

Summer of 2008 my mother agreed to see Iron Man with me.  We made an early Mother’s Day date of it with lunch afterward.  She loved the movie to my surprise.  The following year at the same time I treated her to the next superhero movie and again lunch.  Now for the past 10 years, it has been a tradition that the first Sunday in May, I take her to see the new superhero movie and out for lunch.  She looks forward to it, we reconnect and recently my daughters have joined us on our nerdy day away.  My mother is the best. She is an amazing grandmother to her grandchildren and spoils them every chance she gets.  She has been there for my family in our lowest moments and cheered us on our achievements. I wouldn’t be who I am without her.

--Stephen, nominating Becky

My grandma has been an amazing caregiver her entire life. As a child she helped my mother by babysitting for me each day. We have such a bond that she is like a second mother to me. When my mother got sick with Multiple Sclerosis she moved in with her and cared for her daily until she died suddenly. She cooked all her meals from scratch and used only organic, wholesome and nutritionally dense foods specific for people with MS. She devoted all her elderly life to caring for her daughter. With that said my grandma is a pillar of health herself. She has always taught me to be health conscious and only eat while organic foods. I am forever grateful for her instilling this in me. After my Mother passed this February my grandmother really took it hard. She is one of the strongest women I know and I saw her crumbling. About a week after my mother's passing, my uncle (my moms brother ) suddenly passed away from a stroke. She has lost both her children in such a short amount of time. She is such an amazing person and caregiver and I am truly blessed to still have her in my life. This woman is the definition of giving and caring and selflessness and I admire her everyday. This is why she deserves to me nominated.

Karla deserves to win an awesome mamma contest because she truly is an awesome mamma..not just to her four children - but to lots of kids in the neighborhood. She's made education a priority to her family: *Her oldest daughter graduated from a college prep school, is going to college, and has a manager position in a local retailer. *Karla made a huge sacrifice when her second daughter graduated from high school early, and moved -in order to go to college*This awesome mamma graduated with a college degree herself while raising her 4 kids*She's still heavily involved in her 2 younger sons' school lives and chairs multiple award winning events and committees*Karla steps in as mom to my kids any time I need her. And she does this for several families.*She is the most positive person I know and even just sitting by Karla makes things better, just like a mom!*Sadly, Karla is moving away this summer and will be even busier than normal wrapping up her Erie life. She could use a little pampering and deserves the best!

--Kelly, nominating Karla

🌷🌷🌷

My mom is the best mom I could have ever asked for. She is the most supportive, caring, helpful, and strong woman I know. She would do anything for anyone. She is a foster parent and has turned more lives around than I can count. She has eight kids, several of which she has adopted through foster care. She still takes in kids that need a home and treats them as her own in every single way. It is amazing the love she shows to everyone she meets. She puts everyone before herself every day and constantly on the run to make sure everyone is happy and gets to do what they want to do. I would love to win this gift for her so she can take a day to herself and see how much she is truly appreciated.

--Cassandra, nominating Stacy
